Preparing Children for
Kindergarten & Beyond

Our Classrooms & Programs

At The Learning Center, we separate children into groups so that we may work with them at their appropriate developmental stages. Our curriculum is designed to address the needs and behaviors at each level. To assess progress, we use two tools that are approved by the Department of Education: Teaching Strategies Gold and Ages & Stages. Our students, from Milford, DE, and the surrounding areas, are duly prepared for school when they finish our programs.

Our Programs

Infants: Tiny Tadpoles & Frolicking Frogs

The infant classrooms provide a loving, nurturing environment. Staff work extended hours to ensure continuity of care and open dialogue with the families. The daily routines of the children are individualized and are created with the family. Infants are offered the opportunity to explore their environment through their senses. Staff sing, read and interact with the children to enhance their developmental progress. Individual educational and developmental goals are established for each child. Staff record and note developmental milestones, accomplishments and concerns and share with families on a regular basis.

Toddlers: Toddling Turtles, Silly Snails, & Marvelous Monkeys

In the toddler classrooms, routines are more structured but still designed to meet the individual needs of the little ones. Teachers provide lots of movement activities as this age group is always on the go! They also learn best through using their senses so lots of hands-on activities are utilized. Emphasis is on the development of their social and emotional skills, as this is the foundation for all future learning, and the ability to self-regulate is an important life skill. Staff record and note developmental milestones, accomplishments and concerns and share with families on a regular basis.

Preschool: The Explorers & The Inventors

The preschool classroom’s goal is to provide an environment that prepares your children for kindergarten. Knowing children learn best through play, teachers are intentional in their planning to provide opportunities for learning while structuring activities that cater to their natural tendency to play. Activity centers are created to nurture their creativity and curiosity while simultaneously teaching specific goals in individual, small, and large group settings. Daily experiences in writing, problem-solving, creating free art, listening to stories, promoting language acquisition, and developing independence skills are provided. Progress is documented through observing, recording, assessing and sharing with the families.

School Age: The Scholars

The school-age program offers services for before and after school as well as full-day service during the summer and when the public schools are closed. Bus transportation is available to all Milford elementary schools. The program is designed to offer a variety of activities to allow the children to relax before and after their school day. In the summer, a program is implemented to reflect their diverse needs and interests as well as reinforce the academic skills they have mastered during the school year. A yearly assessment is conducted and shared with the families to ensure the needs, goals, and interests of each child are incorporated into the program.

*We provide accommodations for children with IEPs (Individualized Education Plans) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
